Dr. Mark Tanker was born and raised in Atlantic City and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He completed his undergraduate education at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and earned his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio to continue his training as a Fellow in Gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation and Cleveland Clinic Hospital. At the conclusion of his Fellowship in 1982, he returned to Philadelphia to begin his Gastroenterology practice.
Dr. Tanker is an attending physician at Albert Einstein Medical Centers in Philadelphia and Elkins Park, Moss Rehabilitation Hospital, Jeanes Hospital and Kindred Hospital of Philadelphia. He is Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Tanker is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. He has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and liver diseases, but treats all diseases of the gastrointestinal system.
Dr. Tanker serves as the Co-Medical Director of Einstein at Elkins Park and is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. In addition, he is the former President of the Medical Staff and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Elkins Park Hospital. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Gastroenterological Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Physicians and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
Dr. Tanker is married and has two children. He enjoys cooking, skiing, water sports and traveling.
